AT A GLANCE
Skin laxity and volume loss can contribute to a similar-looking concern, but they are not the same finding. A clinician needs to assess what is changing before recommending a tightening, volume-related or other approach.
Describe what changed and where
Bring a clear account of when you noticed the difference and whether weight, illness or previous procedures are part of the history. Explain whether you mean a fold, a hollow, a softer outline or a change visible only in certain lighting. Older photographs may help describe the concern, but they cannot replace an examination. Ask the doctor to distinguish the assessed findings from the treatment names being discussed.
Questions to bring to your consultation
Use these questions to turn your interests into a specific discussion with your doctor. Keep the proposed treatment, the reason for it and the follow-up arrangements together in your notes.
- What findings explain the change in this area?
- Which part of the concern could the proposal address?
- Could this plan affect another feature I want to preserve?
Your questions
Can a tightening treatment correct every hollow-looking area?
Do not assume so. A hollow appearance and a skin-firmness concern may need different assessments. Ask the clinician to explain the cause and the limits of the proposed approach.
