AT A GLANCE
Ultrasound and radiofrequency are different ways of delivering energy. Within each category, the specific device, treatment method and intended area matter; a technology label alone does not establish suitability or results.
Ask what the device actually does in the proposed plan
At Jcell, Ultherapy and Thermage illustrate different energy-device discussions. RF microneedling is another method and should not be treated as identical to a surface RF treatment simply because both use the letters RF. Ask the clinician to name the device, explain the procedure and connect it to the examination. Avoid using depth numbers from an online comparison to choose your own treatment settings.
Questions to bring to your consultation
Use these questions to turn your interests into a specific discussion with your doctor. Keep the proposed treatment, the reason for it and the follow-up arrangements together in your notes.
- Which device and method are being proposed?
- How does that method relate to the area you examined?
- Which risks and limitations are specific to this procedure?
Your questions
Does deeper treatment automatically mean a better result?
No. The intended target and individual anatomy matter. Ask why the clinician proposes a particular approach; greater depth is not a general measure of quality.
